Women’s baseball made its debut on Monday at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland. After British Columbia won the gold medal on Saturday in men’s baseball action, it was time for the ladies to come on to the diamond. However, what happened on Monday at the Canada Summer Games was extremely unique and put women’s baseball in the spotlight. That is because women’s baseball was the only event that took place, as British Columbia trounced the host team from Newfoundland by a score of 13-0.
British Columbia scored three runs in the first inning, and then 10 runs in the fourth inning. British Columbia had a three run home run in the first inning from third baseman Layla Spencer of Kamloops, and then had a triple in the fourth inning which was part of BC’s double digit inning. British Columbia also had a fourth inning double from right fielder Olivia Roos of Vancouver.
On the mound, British Columbia limited Newfoundland to only one hit. Emma Lecompte of Kelowna threw five shutout innings.
British Columbia completed the first week of the Canada Games with 67 medals (27 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 24 bronze medals). That is the third most so far, as Quebec leads with 103 medals and Ontario is second with 102 medals.
