
Victoria Mboko is in the semifinals of the 2025 National Bank Open. On Monday night at IGA Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, Mboko defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. The win for Mboko was considered an upset. In this quarterfinal matchup of unseeded players, Mboko was ranked 88th in the world, and Bouzas Maneiro was ranked 51st.
From a service perspective, Mboko had the statistical advantage. Mboko had three aces and two double faults, while Bouzas Maneiro had zero aces and five double faults. Mboko broke Bouzas Maneiro five times in nine opportunities, and won 56% of the points on her second serve. Bouzas Maneiro only won 29% of the points on her second serve.
Next up for Mboko on Wednesday in the semifinals is Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, the ninth seed. Rybakina is a grand slam champion as she won Wimbledon in 2022. Rybakina won their only prior matchup, 6-3, 7-5 in the second round of Washington two weeks ago.
On Tuesday there are two more quarterfinal matches. Madison Keys of the United States, the 2025 Australian Open champion and number six seed, is facing Clara Tauson of Denmark, the 16th seed. Then Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, the 10th seed, is facing Naomi Osaka of Japan. Svitolina is a three-time grand slam semifinalist (2019 United States Open and 2019 and 2023 Wimbledon), and Osaka is a four time grand slam champion (2018 and 2020 United States Open, and 2019 and 2021 Australian Open).
