Chicago Blackhawks left winger Tyler Bertuzzi of Sudbury, Ontario recorded his fourth career National Hockey League hat trick on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-2 Blackhawks win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
All three of Bertuzzi’s goals came in the third period. He first opened the scoring at 3:06 of the final frame from Matt Grzelcyk and Connor Murphy. Bertuzzi then put the Blackhawks up 2-0 at 6:46 of the third period from Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia and Artyom Levshunov. Bertuzzi’s hat trick came at 11:37 of the third period to put Chicago up 4-0. Defenseman Louis Crevier of Quebec City, Quebec and Ryan Donato had the assists.
Bertuzzi was one of two Canadians to score for the Blackhawks and have a multi-point game. The other was Bedard who had one goal and one assist for two points.
Bertuzzi’s first two NHL career hat tricks came with the Detroit Red Wings. He scored thrice in a 5-2 Red Wings win over the Minnesota Wild on January 12, 2019, and four times in a 7-6 Red Wings loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 14, 2021. Bertuzzi’s last hat trick came in a 4-3 Toronto Maple Leafs win over the Colorado Avalanche on February 24, 2024.
This season Bertuzzi had six goals and four assists for 10 points in 13 games. He was a -1 with 18 penalty minutes, four power-play points, 27 shots on goal, 15 faceoff wins, 15 hits, three takeaways, and 11 giveaways.
