Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his seventh career National Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Oilers win over the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Skinner made 18 saves overall. He made six saves in the first period, six saves in the second period, and six saves in the third period. Tyler Toffoli of Scarborough, Ontario led the Sharks with three shots on goal.
Offensively, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of Peterborough, Ontario scored for the Oilers. Perry won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Meanwhile, Oilers centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded an assist on a goal by Ty Emberson. For McDavid, it was his 100th point. It was the eighth time in his career he reached the century mark in points.
For 2024-25, Skinner improved to a record of 26 wins, 18 regulation losses and four losses in extra time. He had a career-high three shutouts, a goals against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of .896. Skinner’s other two shutouts this season came on October 25 in a 4-0 Oilers win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 25, and in a 1-0 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings on January 13.
With the win, the Oilers closed out the 2024-25 NHL regular season with a record of 48 wins, 29 regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 101 points. They will play the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Playoffs starting Monday.
