Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby recorded his 17th National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. Crosby, who won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, scored thrice in a 5-3 Pittsburgh Penguins win over the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Crosby opened the scoring at 4:16 of the first period on the power-play from Kris Letang of Montreal, Quebec and Evgeni Malkin. Crosby then tied the game at two at the 20 second mark of the third period from Rutger McGroarty, and then finished the scoring with one minute and 15 seconds left in the third period into an empty net. Defenseman Conor Timmins of St. Catharines, Ontario picked up the lone assist. Crosby had a four point game as he assisted on a goal by Bryan Rust.

This season, Crosby has 30 goals and 56 assists for 86 points in 75 games. He is a -19 with 29 penalty minutes, 24 power-play points, seven game-winning goals, 211 shots on goal, 950 faceoff wins, 38 blocked shots, 66 hits, 27 takeaways, and 80 giveaways.

All of Crosby’s 17 hat tricks have been with the Penguins. This is Crosby’s first hat trick this season. Crosby has had two other four point games in 2024-25. He had one goal and three assists in a 5-4 Penguins overtime win over the Nashville Predators on December 19 and in a 7-3 Penguins win over the Philadelphia Flyers on December 23.
