Owen Tippett records second career NHL hat trick

Philadelphia Flyers right winger Owen Tippett of Peterborough, Ontario recorded his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-3 Flyers win over the Colorado Avalanche at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

Tippett started the scoring with four minutes and 58 seconds left in the first period. Denver Barkey of Newmarket, Ontario and Cam York had the assists. Tippett then scored the game-winning goal from Sean Couturier of Bathurst, New Brunswick at the 56 second mark of the third period to put the Flyers up 4-3. Tippett’s hat trick then came on an unassisted shorthanded goal at 10:24 of the third period to put the Flyers up 6-3.

There were two Canadians who scored for the Flyers and had a multi-point game. The other was Barkey, who had one goal and one assist for two points. Tippett also added an assist for four points. This was the third time in Tippett’s career he had four points in a game. He also had one goal and three assists in a 5-4 Flyers win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 21, 2024, and one goal and three assists in a 6-5 Flyers win over the St. Louis Blues on November 14, 2025. Tippett’s first NHL hat trick came on March 17, 2023 in a 5-2 Flyers win over the Buffalo Sabres.

In 2025-26, Tippett had 18 goals and 15 assists for 33 points in 50 games. Her was a -3 with 22 penalty minutes, four power-play points, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 128 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, 26 blocked shots, 89 hits, 12 takeaways, and 52 giveaways.

Tippett’s first shorthanded point came in a 6-3 Flyers win over the Vancouver Canucks on December 30. Tippett scored from Rodrigo Abols and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen at 17:19 of the third period which put the Flyers up 5-2 at the time.

With the win, the Flyers improved to a record of 24 wins, 17 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time for 57 points. They are three points back of the Boston Bruins for a playoff spot.
