Oilers trade Mangiapane to Blackhawks for Dickinson

The Edmonton Oilers have traded left winger Andrew Mangiapane of Toronto, Ontario to the Chicago Blackhawks for centre Jason Dickinson of Georgetown, Ontario on Wednesday according to Rogers Sportsnet. In addition to Dickinson, the Oilers received centre Colton Dach of St. Albert, Alberta. In addition to Mangiapane, the Blackhawks are receiving a conditional first round pick in 2027.

As part of the deal, the conditional first round pick is top 12 protected. The Oilers get to keep the draft pick if it is within the top 12. In that case, the Blackhawks will receive another draft pick in 2027.

Mangiapane is joining his fourth NHL team. He has previously played seven seasons with the Calgary Flames and one season each with the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers.

This season, Mangiapane has seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 52 games. He is a -19 with 36 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, 51 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, 19 blocked shots, 51 hits, seven takeaways, and 33 giveaways.

Mangiapane’s game-winning goal came on October 11 in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks. Mangiapane scored an unassisted marker with 51 seconds left in the second period to put the Oilers up 2-0 at the time. Mangiapane’s first faceoff win came in a 4-3 Oilers win over the Carolina Hurricanes on November 15, and his second faceoff win came in a 9-4 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken on December 4.

Dickinson is joining his fourth NHL team too. He previously played six seasons with the Dallas Stars, one season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and four seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks.

In 47 games, Dickinson has six goals and seven assists for 13 points. He is a -7 with 10 penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 52 shots on goal, 342 faceoff wins, 36 blocked shots, 51 hits, nine takeaways, and 34 giveaways. The game-winning goal came in a 2-0 Blackhawks win over the Winnipeg Jets on January 19. Dickinson put the Blackhawks up 1-0 at 13:21 of the second period from Ryan Donato and defenseman Alex Vlasic.

Dach has played the last two seasons for Chicago. He has three goals and six assists for nine points this season.
