Nield and Smith record week 9 CFL touchdowns for winning teams

Two Canadians recorded touchdowns for winning teams in week nine of the Canadian Football League season. They were Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver Tommy Nield of Guelph, Ontario, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Kiondre Smith of Markham, Ontario.

Smith opened the scoring on Saturday in a 28-24 Tiger-Cats win over the Edmonton Elks. Smith had a 24-yard touchdown catch from Bo Levi Mitchell at 1:06 of the first quarter. For the game he had seven catches for 138 receiving yards. For the season, Smith has 39 catches for 503 receiving yards and four touchdowns. With the win, the Tiger-Cats improve to a record of six wins and two losses and lead the East Division. After losing their first two games of the season, Hamilton has won six straight games.

Nield had a 13-yard touchdown catch from Trevor Harris in a 34-6 Roughriders win over the Montreal Alouettes. on Saturday. He put the Roughriders up 14-0 at 6:10 of the second quarter. In the game and for the season, Nield had two catches for 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Roughriders have now improved to a record of seven wins and one loss for 14 points. They not only have the best record in the West Division, but the best record in the entire Canadian Football League.
