Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia delivered the 69th Major League Baseball quality start of his career on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-1 San Diego Padres win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Petco Park in San Diego, California.

Pivetta threw seven innings, and only gave up one earned run. During 89 pitches, he had 60 strikes, and five strikeouts. Pivetta gave up one hit, zero walks and one home run.

For the season, Pivetta now has a record of 11 wins and three losses with an earned run average of 2.73. In 22 games, he has given up 89 hits, 39 earned runs, and 14 home runs, to go along with 136 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.94. The fact that Pivetta has a WHIP under one is super impressive. Pivetta also has a marvelous opponent batting average of .191, which is equally terrific, and nine points below the Mendoza Line.

For Pivetta’s career, he now has 36 quality starts with the Boston Red Sox, 19 quality starts with the Philadelphia Phillies, and now 14 quality starts with the Padres. The Padres are in second place in the National League West. With a record of 61 wins and 50 losses, they are three games back of the first place Los Angeles Dodgers.
