New Brunswick wins first gold medal of Canada Summer Games

New Brunswick won its first medal on Wednesday at the 2025 Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Christel Robichaud of Grand-Digue placed first in the women’s para shot put. It was one of two medals won by New Brunswick at the Canada Games. The other came from Max Mazerolle of Richibucto, as he won silver in the men’s decathlon. In all, New Brunswick has now won seven medals at the Canada Games (one gold, three silver and three bronze).

Robichaud, who is in a wheelchair, competes in the women’s sitting shot put event. Addisyn Franceschini of Thunder Bay, Ontario won the silver medal and Joanne Lee of Newmarket, Ontario won bronze.

Mazerolle won the silver medal in the men’s decathlon with 6348 points. Edouard Lavoie Beaulieu of Drummondville, Quebec won the gold medal with 6974 points, and Logan Kok of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan won the bronze medal with 6259 points.

Lavoie Beaulieu won one of six gold medals for Quebec on Wednesday. Quebec now has 116 total medals and have six more medals than second place Ontario with 110. The other five gold medalists from Quebec on Wednesday were Xavier Lemaitre of Lac-Brome (men’s 3000 metre steeplechase), Sophie Courville of Montreal (women’s 3000 metre steeplechase), Maude Ruelland of Lac-Beauport (women’s mountain biking), Samuel Talbot of Longueuil, Quebec (men’s 1m springboard diving), and Aurelie Sevigny of Sainte-Julie (women’s 3m springboard diving).
