The Montreal Victoire defeated the Ottawa Charge 3-2 in an epic women’s hockey game on Sunday. The reason why this game was so monumental was because the Victoire won in quadruple overtime. The overtime hero was Catherine Dubois of Quebec City, Quebec, who scored with four minutes and 27 seconds left in the fourth overtime period from Kristin O’Neill of Oakville, Ontario.

This was the longest game ever in the history of the PWHL. Last season, the Boston Fleet defeated the Victoire 2-1 in triple overtime in the second game of the Walter Cup semifinals. The longest professional women’s hockey game came in 2018 when the Kunlun Red Star beat the Calgary Inferno 2-0 in triple overtime in the Clarkson Cup semifinals of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League postseason.

O’Neill led the Victoire in scoring with two points as she had one goal and one assist. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario also scored for Montreal.

It was also an exceptional game for Victoire goaltender and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec. Desbiens made 63 saves for the victory. Desbiens and Stacey won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. With the win, Montreal tied the Walter Cup semifinals at one game apiece.

Meanwhile, in the other Walter Cup semifinals, the Minnesota Frost beat the Toronto Sceptres 7-5. Minnesota has a 2-1 series lead.
