Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta, won the silver medal in a Diamond League event in London, England on Saturday. For Arop it was his first Diamond League medal of the 2025 track and field season, and the 19th Diamond League medal of his athletics career. He has now won five gold medals, eight silver medals, and six bronze medals.

On Saturday, Arop posted a time of 1:42.22. Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won the gold medal with a time of 1:42.00. Max Burgin of Great Britain won the bronze medal with a time of 1:42.36. Arop reached the podium by 0.49 seconds over Bryce Hoppel of the United States, who had a fourth place time of 1:42.71.

It was a much better start for Arop in London, than the Diamond League event in Monaco on July 11. In the race nine days ago, Arop got off to a very slow start. In fact, he was near the back of the pack before finishing in fifth place. Arop is in 10th place in the 2025 Diamond League standings with 11 points. Wanyonyi leads with 38 points.

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Arop was also beaten by Wanyonyi. In a very close race, Arop had a silver medal winning time of 1:41.20. Wanyonyi won the gold medal at 1:41.19. The silver medal for Arop in London will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
