The Toronto Maple Leafs have won their first game of the 2025 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Sunday night at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, the Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-2 in game one of the Eastern Conference First Round playoff series.

The Maple Leafs were led in scoring by Mitch Marner of Markham, Ontario. Marner had one goal and two assists for three points. There was a second Canadian with a multi-point game, as Canadian Olympic gold medalist John Tavares of Mississauga, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points. Tavares won an Olympic gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The other Maple Leafs goal scorers were defenseman Morgan Reilly of Vancouver, British Columbia, William Nylander, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Matthew Knies. Nylander is a native of Calgary, Alberta, even though he represents Sweden internationally.

The first period of the game between the Senators and Maple Leafs had no infractions. However, there were 56 penalty minutes over the next two periods. The Senators had 38 penalty minutes and the Maple Leafs had 18 penalty minutes. The undisciplined play for Ottawa led to three power play goals for the Maple Leafs. Game two of the series is Tuesday.
