Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta recorded his seventh National Hockey League shutout on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Washington Capitals win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Capital One Arena in Washington, District of Columbia.
Thompson made 39 saves for the shutout. He made 12 saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period and 16 saves in the third period. That is the most number of saves Thompson has made for a shutout in his NHL career. He previously made 29 saves in a 4-0 Vegas Golden Knights win over the Anaheim Ducks on October 28, 2022, and again on February 19, 2024 in a 4-0 Golden Knights win over the San Jose Sharks.
In the Capitals’s win over the Blue Jackets, Kirill Marchenko led Columbus with six shots on goal. From an offensive perspective, Washington had goals from Jakob Chychrun and Aliaksei Protas.
Of Thompson’s seven career NHL shutouts, four have been with the Golden Knights and three have been with the Capitals. In 2025-26, Thompson has a record of 13 wins, six regulation losses and two losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 1.96 and a save percentage of .925. Despite having a goals against average under two, this was his first shutout of the season.
With the win, the Capitals remain in first place in the Metropolitan Division. They have a record of 18 wins, nine regulation losses and three losses in extra time for 39 points.
