Logan Thompson records eighth career NHL shutout

Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta recorded his eighth career National Hockey League shutout on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 Washington Capitals win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Capital One Arena in Washington, District of Columbia.

Thompson made 22 saves for the shutout. He made four saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Nicholas Robertson led the Maple Leafs with six shots on goal.

Offensively, Capitals rookie right winger Justin Sourdif of Richmond, British Columbia had a multi-point game. He had two assists for two points.

Of Thompson’s eight career shutouts, four shutouts have been with the Washington Capitals, and four shutouts have been with the Vegas Golden Knights. In 2025-26, Thompson has a record of 14 wins, seven regulation losses and three losses in extra time, two shutouts, a goals against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .925. Thompson’s other shutout this season came on December 7 in a 2-0 Capitals win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With the win, the Capitals improved to a record of 19 wins, 11 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 42 points. They are in second place in the Metropolitan Division.
