In the men’s hammer throw on Tuesday, Katzberg had the fifth best throw of all-time. He had a throw of 84.7 metres, which was a personal best, North American record, and the best throw ever at the World Athletics Championships.

Katzberg earned a medal by 2.68 metres. Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine finished in fourth place with a throw of 82.02 metres. Merlin Hummel of Germany won the silver medal with a throw of 82.77 metres. Bence Halasz of Hungary won the bronze medal with a throw of 82.69 metres.

This was Katzberg’s second gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. He previously won gold in 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. Katzberg and Rogers won the gold medal in the hammer throw at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Dunfee won the bronze medal in the men’s 50 kilometre walk at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. The gold medal for Katzberg will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
