Katie Vincent wins three World Cup canoeing medals in Poland

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario had an extremely productive weekend competing in Poznan, Poland over the weekend. She won gold in the C1 200 metres on Sunday, silver in the women’s C2 500 metre race on Saturday with Zoe Wojtyk of Ottawa, Ontario, and gold in the C1 500 metres on Saturday. It should be noted that the C1 500 metres is not an Olympic event. In the women’s C1 200 metres, a second Canadian reached the podium. Sophia Jensen of Edmonton, Alberta won the bronze medal.

Vincent won gold in the women’s C1 200 metres at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In Poland on Sunday, Vincent had a winning time of 47.48 seconds. Iryna Fedoriv of Ukraine won the silver medal with a time of 47.63 seconds. Jensen won the bronze medal with a time of 47.77 seconds. Vincent reached the podium by 0.35 seconds and Jensen reached the podium by .06 seconds. Dorota Borowska of Poland finished in fourth place with a time of 47.83 seconds.

Vincent and Wojtyk had a second place time of 1:52.60. Agnes Anna Kiss and Bianka Nagy of Hungary won the gold medal with a time of 1:51.87. Mengya Sun and Yanyan Ma of China won the bronze medal with a time of 1:53.37. Vincent and Wojtyk won a medal by 1.5 seconds over fellow Canadians Jensen and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Sloan MacKenzie of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Jensen and MacKenzie had a fourth place time of 1:54.10.

MacKenzie won a bronze medal in the women’s C2 500 metres for Canada with Vincent at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The medals in Poland for Vincent and MacKenzie will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
