The 2025 Grand Slam of Curling began this past week in London, Ontario. The first grand slam event was the Masters, with Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario winning on the women’s side and Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba winning on the men’s side. In the finals on Sunday, Homan beat Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni 6-4, and Dunstone beat Scotland’s Ross Whyte 6-4.
Homan went through the tournament undefeated. In Pool B action, she finished in first place with four wins (two wins in eight regulation ends and two wins in a draw to the button shootout). Homan defeated Kayla Skrlik of Calgary, Alberta 7-4 on Tuesday, Isabella Wrana of Sweden 6-5 on Wednesday, Sayaka Yoshimura of Japan 7-3 on Thursday, and then Rui Wang of China 8-7 on Friday. In the quarterfinals on Saturday, Homan beat Miku Nihira 6-4. Then in the semifinals on Saturday, Homan beat Wrana again 7-5.
In the history of Grand Slam Curling, Homan has 18 titles. She has won five Masters titles (2012, 2013, 2015, 2023 and 2025).
Dunstone won his second Grand Slam of Curling event after winning the 2020 Masters in North Bay, Ontario. He had a round robin record of three wins and one loss. Dunstone beat Korey Dropkin of the United States 6-4 on Tuesday, Magnus Ramsfjell of Norway 6-3 on Wednesday, and fellow Canadian Mike McEwen 7-3 on Thursday. In the quarterfinals on Saturday, Dunstone beat Ramsfjell again 6-3. Then in the semifinals on Saturday, Dunstone beat Canadian Brad Jacobs 6-5.
