The second day of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games is set to commence. Here is what to expect.
Curling
Canada is ice cold at the moment after a hot start. After winning their first three games over the Czech Republic, Norway and Italy, Canada has lost their last three games against the United States, Great Britain and Estonia. As a result, they are no longer currently in a playoff spot at three wins and three losses. On Sunday, Canada plays Sweden (4-3) at 6:30 am MT and South Korea (1-5) at 11am MT.
Snowboarding
There are outside chances for Canadian medals here. That is because Kaylie Buck of Oakville, Ontario won a silver medal in women’s parallel giant slalom snowboarding at a World Cup stop on the Olympic course in Cortina d’Ampezzo in December, and Arnaud Gaudet of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the bronze medal in a men’s World Cup parallel giant slalom in Bulgaria this past month. The second place finish was Gaudet’s first World Cup snowboarding medal, and it could not have come at a better time. The women’s parallel giant slalom begins at 5 AM and the men go at 5:24 AM.
Speed Skating
Calgary’s Ted-Jan Bloemen competes today at 8am MT. Bloemen won the silver medal in the men’s 5000m at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and reached the World Cup podium in November at an event at Calgary’s Olympic Oval. At 39 years of age, it will be interesting to see how much Bloemen has left in the tank, however he is still ranked fifth in the world.
Figure Skating
The team event wraps up on Sunday with the free skate for pairs (11:30 AM MT), free skate for the women (12:45 pm MT) and free skate for the men (1:55 pm MT). Canada is in fourth place at the moment with 35 points, and two points back of Italy for the bronze medal. The margin of error for pairs figure skaters Lia Pereira of Milton, Ontario, and Trennt Michaud of Belleville, Ontario, women’s singles figure skater Madeline Schizas of Oakville, Ontario, and men’s singles figure skater Stephen Gogolev of Toronto, Ontario is low.
