Corey Conners in contention after first round of 2025 Masters

Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario is in contention after the first round of the 2025 Masters in Augusta, Georgia. After 18 holes, Conners posted a score of -4 and is in a three-way tie for second place with Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey  and Ludvig Aberg of Eslov, Sweden. Conners, Scheffler and Aberg are all three strokes back of the leader, Justin Rose of London, England. Rose is all alone in first place at -7.

Conners had five birdies and one bogey. He birdied the second, eighth, 15th, 17th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the fifth hole.

Of the four players in contention are two major champions. Rose won the United States Open in 2013, and Scheffler won the 2022 Masters and 2024 Masters.

There are 26 players under par at the moment. Conners is the only Canadian in red numbers. In all, there are four Canadians competing in the first major tournament of the year. Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba is at +1, Mike Weir of Sarnia, Ontario, the 2003 Masters champion is at +3, and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario is at +5.

After being in the morning session on Thursday, Conners will be in the afternoon on Friday in round two. Conners will be teeing off alongside 2023 British Open champion Brian Harman of Savannah, Georgia and German Stephan Jaeger.
