Edmonton Oilers centre and captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded his 15th National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. It was his 14th regular season hat trick, as he has one hat trick in the postseason.

McDavid accomplished the feat in a 6-2 Oilers win over the Nashville Predators at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. He scored one goal in each period. McDavid opened the scoring at 8:53 of the first period from defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Leon Draisaitl. He then put the Oilers up 2-0 with four minutes and seven seconds left in the second period on the penalty shot. McDavid’s hat trick came with 57 seconds left in the third period from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Mattias Ekholm to close out the scoring.

There were two Canadians to score for the Oilers. Curtis Lazar of Salmon Arm, British Columbia had his third goal of the season.

In 2025-26, McDavid leads the NHL with 47 assists and 75 points. In 43 games, he has 28 goals, is a +2, and has 16 penalty minutes, 32 power-play points, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 161 shots on goal, 223 faceoff wins, 18 blocked shots, 18 hits, 14 takeaways, and 66 giveaways.

McDavid’s game-winning goal came on December 4 in a 9-4 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken. McDavid scored from Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Leon Draisaitl on the power-play at 6:14 of the second period. At the time, the Oilers went up 5-2.

The first shorthanded point McDavid registered this season was in the Oilers’s second game. He helped set up Draisaitl on an empty net goal with one minute and 13 seconds left in the third period in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks on October 11.

McDavid’s second shorthanded point was a shorthanded goal in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Boston Bruins on December 18. In an insurance goal, McDavid closed the scoring on an all-Canadian goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and defenseman Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario at 1:41 of the third period.

With the win, the Oilers improved to a record of 21 wins, 16 regulation losses and six losses in extra time for 48 points. They are in a first place tie in the Pacific Division with the Vegas Golden Knights.
