Connor McDavid records 14th career NHL hat trick

Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded his 14th career National Hockey League hat trick. McDavid accomplished the feat in a 9-4 Edmonton Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Thursday. Of the 14 hat tricks, 13 have been in the regular season and one in the playoffs.

McDavid’s first goal came at 7:17 of the first period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia had the assist. McDavid then put the Oilers up 5-2 with the game-winning goal from Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Leon Draisaitl at 6:14 of the second period. McDavid then scored into a wide open net on the power-play from Nugent-Hopkins and Draisaitl at 6:59 of the third period to put the Oilers up 8-3.

McDavid finished the game with four points as he also added an assist. He was one of five Canadians on the Oilers with a multi-point game. The other four were Bouchard (three assists), Adam Henrique of Brantford, Ontario (two assists), Nugent-Hopkins (three assists), and Matthew Savoie of St. Albert, Alberta (two assists). Meanwhile, Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario had his second goal of the season after coming back from wrist surgery.

This season, McDavid has 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points. His 26 assists lead the NHL. McDavid is a -6 with 12 penalty minutes, 17 power-play points, one game-winning goal, one shorthanded point, 82 shots on goal, 137 faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 10 hits, 10 takeaways, and 44 giveaways.
