Team Canada is in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Gold Cup. On Tuesday in Group B action, Canada defeated El Savador 2-0 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Canada won Group B with a record of two wins and one draw for seven points. In three games, they outscored their opponents 9-1. In addition to beating El Savador 2-0 on Tuesday, the Canadians defeated Honduras 6-0 a week ago at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, and tied Curacao 1-1 in Houston on Saturday.

The Canadian goal scorers on Tuesday were forward Jonathan David of Ottawa, Ontario, and wide midfielder Tajon Buchanan of Brampton, Ontario. David, who plays for Lille in Ligue 1, scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute, and Buchanan, who plays for Villarreal in Spain’s La Liga, scored in the 56th minute. Canada scored both of their goals with El Savador having only nine players on the pitch, as two of their players were red carded.

Canada will next play Guatemala in the quarterfinals. That game will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday. The other three quarterfinals have the United States versus Costa Rica, Panama versus Honduras, and Mexico versus Saudi Arabia. It should be noted that Saudi Arabia is participating because of a CONCACAF invitation.
