Team Canada is in the gold medal game in women’s hockey at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. On Monday, the Canadian team found themselves in a very tight semifinal contest, but still came away with a narrow 2-1 victory over Switzerland.

The Canadian star was three-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Quebec City, Quebec. Poulin scored both of Canada’s goals, and in the process set the record for the most goals scored by one female hockey player ever in  the history of the Olympic Winter Games with 20. Hayley Wickenheiser of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan had the old record with 18 goals.

Some may be concerned that Canada only beat Switzerland 2-1 on Monday in the semifinal game. I am not one go them. That is because Canada controlled play with out, and limited Switzerland to only eight shots on goal. Canada had 47 shots on Swiss goaltender Andrea Braendli, who made 44 saves.

The United States looked more dominant against Sweden than Canada did against Switzerland. That is a problem. Actually, it is a serious problem. The Americans also dominated Canada 5-0 in pool play and were dominant against Canada all season long in games leading up to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. The gold medal game is Thursday at 11am MT.
