After losing 6-5 to Scotland on Monday, Canada’s Brad Jacobs responded with two impressive wins on Tuesday at the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championships in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. First, Canada beat Sweden 8-6, and then Canada beat Italy 4-2.
The Canadian win over Sweden was extremely noteworthy. Swedish skip Niklas Edin has a significant resume. It includes winning the gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and seven gold medals at the World Men’s Curling Championships. Of the seven gold medals, four have come in Canada (2013 in Victoria, British Columbia, 2015 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 2019 in Lethbridge, Alberta, and in 2021 in Calgary, Alberta).
The key end in the Canada/Sweden end was the fourth end. Edin was trying to raise his guard into play and knock out two Canadian stones, but ended up giving up three points to Jacobs.
In Canada’s win over Italy, Canadian third Marc Kennedy had a triple takeout. The problem was he took out three of his own Canadian rocks from the house. The mistake was not costly, as Jacobs won a low scoring contest.
Canada is in third place at the moment at five wins and one loss. China leads at six wins and one loss. Scotland is in second place at five wins and one loss.
