Team Canada has won its first game in men’s water polo at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Kallang, Singapore on Monday. In a rather dominant performance, Canada trounced the host team from Singapore 22-10. This was Canada’s second game of the tournament. They lost to the United States 18-9 on Saturday, and are at one win and one loss.
In Canada’s game against Singapore, attacker Reuel D’Souza of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia was Canada’s top player as he scored seven goals on nine shots. Nine 0ther Canadians scored. Centre forward Bogdan Djerkovic of Ottawa, Ontario had four goals, attacker Ali Oussadou of Montreal, Quebec scored twice, attacker David Lapins of Gatineau, Quebec scored twice, and centre defender Aleksa Gardijan of Gatineau scored twice. Those with one goal were attacker Jeremie Cote of Pointe-Claire, Quebec, side Nikos Gerakoudis of Montreal, side Leo Hachem of Montreal, centre defender Jason O’Donnell of Beaconsfield, Quebec, and Roko Pozaric of Montreal.
Canada’s next game is against Brazil. That will take place Tuesday evening in Canada and Wednesday morning in Singapore. Canada qualified for the men’s water polo competition at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Kallang by finishing in second place at the 2024 Pan American Water Polo Championship in Ibague, Colombia. The only team that beat Canada in the tournament was Brazil. The Brazilians won by a score of 8-5 and went through the tournament undefeated.
