Brash and Naylor lead Mariners to ALDS win over the Tigers

The Seattle Mariners are on their way to the American League Championship Series where they will play in Canada to start the series on Sunday night in Toronto. On Friday, two Canadians played an instrumental role in the Mariners advancing. They were first baseman Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ontario and relief pitcher Matt Brash of Kingston, Ontario. Seattle beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in 15 innings and won the best out of five series three games to two.

Naylor led the Mariners in the fifth game in hits (three), while Brash threw two shutout innings. Of Naylor’s three base hits, he had two singles and one double. Brash threw 26 pitches of which 17 were strikes, and had two strikeouts.

In the 2025 Major League Baseball postseason, Naylor is batting .261. He has six hits in 23 at bats. Of the six hits, are two extra base hits as he has two doubles. Naylor also has a stolen base, three runs scored, one walk, eight total bases, an on base percentage of .292 and a slugging percentage of .348.

Brash pitched in four games in the series, and had a record of one win and zero losses with an earned run average of 1.93. In 4 2/3 innings pitched, he gave up one hit, one earned run and two walks, to go along with seven strikeouts. Brash’s series WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) was 0.64.
