Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario has won his first game of the 2026 Olympic men’s curling competition. Jacobs’s Team Canada defeated Germany 7-6 in 11 ends on Wednesday in the first draw of the Olympic tournament.

Jacobs won the game with a key shot in the 11th end. With Germany lying two yellow stones in the four foot, Jacobs was able to get the right German stone removed and hit and stick for the single point.

This should be a huge confidence booster for Team Canada. The German teamed skipped by Marc Muskatewitz won the 2024 European Championship. and as a team curled exceptionally well throughout. Germany also applied significant pressure on Canada for several ends, and had an early 2-0 lead. A key shot came in the fifth end when Jacobs stole two points. Muskatewitz was heavy on a draw attempt.

One player who needs to be better is simply Jacobs’s third Marc Kennedy. He missed a key takeout in the fourth end and took his own rocks out accidentally when Germany was applying pressure.

Jacobs does not play Thursday. He then faces China and Sweden on Friday. Swedish second Rasmus Wrana won the gold medal with his sister Isabella in mixed doubles on Tuesday.
