BC and Quebec win team sports at 2025 Canada Games

The first week of action is coming to an end at the 2025 Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland. On Friday, the gold medal games took place in women’s box lacrosse, men’s soccer, and women’s softball.

In women’s box lacrosse, British Columbia beat Alberta in the gold medal game by a score of 4-2. The four British Columbia goal scorers in the championship final were Rylee Wing of Ladysmith, Tylana Beitel of Maple Ridge, Callie Murphy of Maple Ridge, and Peyton Campbell of Anmore. Beitel led British Columbia in scoring with one goal and one assist for two points.

In men’s soccer, Quebec beat Alberta 4-3 on penalty kicks. There were no goals scored in regulation or extra time. The four Quebec goal scorers in penalties were defenders Eliakim Matthieu Awonongbadje of St-Laurent, and Michael Adom Ampofo of Montreal, midfielder Christian N’Sa of Montreal, and forward Alexander Makarova George of Montreal.

In women’s softball, British Columbia beat Ontario 9-6 in the gold medal game. British Columbia got off to a great start as they had a 7-0 lead after three innings. Shortstop Taitumn Reynen of Vancouver, Island came away with three hits, including one double and one triple.

Quebec leads the medal standings with 95 medals (34 gold, 28 silver and 33 bronze). Ontario is second with 93 medals.
