Owen Tippett records third career NHL hat trick

Philadelphia Flyers right winger Owen Tippett of Peterborough, Ontario recorded his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-3 Flyers win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Tippett scored one goal in each period. He opened the scoring at 4:07 of the first period from Trevor Zegras. Then at 12:22 of the second period, Tippett scored from Denver Barkey of Newmarket, Ontario and defenseman Jamie Drysdale of Toronto, Ontario to put the Flyers up 2-0 on an all-Canadian goal. Then at 7:19 0f the third period, Tippett scored from Drysdale and Travis Konecny of London, Ontario to put the Flyers up 4-0 on a second all-Canadian goal. This was also the game-winning goal.

Then to complete the scoring, Tippett set up Sean Couturier for an empty netter. The fourth point tied a career high for points in a game. Tippett also had one goal and three assists in a 5-4 Flyers win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 21, 2024, one goal and three assists in a 6-5 Flyers win over the St. Louis Blues on November 14, 2025, and three goals and one assist in a 7-3 Flyers win over the Colorado Avalanche on January 23, 2026. Tippett’s other hat trick came in a 5-2 Flyers win over the Buffalo Sabres on March 17, 2023.

In 2025-26, Tippett has 27 goals and 21 assists for 48 points in 72 games. He is a -4 with 30 penalty minutes, seven power-play points, three shorthanded points, two game-winning goals, 204 shots on goal, eight faceoff wins, 46 blocked shots, 141 hits, 26 takeaways and 82 giveaways.

Tippett’s other game-winning goal came in the game where he had the hat trick against the Avalanche. Tippett scored from Couturier at the 56 second mark of the third period to put the Flyers up 4-3 at the time.

With the win, the Flyers improved to a record of 36 wins, 24 regulation losses and 12 losses in extra time for 84 points. They are four points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for a playoff spot.
