Brendan Mackay (Sebastien Berthiaume, Freestyle Canada)

Brendan MacKay of Calgary, Alberta has won Canada’s 17th medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Amprezzo. In men’s halfpipe skiing, Mackay was presented an Olympic bronze medal.

MacKay posted a score of 91 points. Alex Ferreira of the United States won the gold medal with score of 93.75 points, and Henry Sildaru of Estonia won the silver medal with 93 points. McKay reached the podium by two points over American Nick Goepper, who was in fourth place with 89 points.

This was Estonia’s first medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, and first medal since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Sixteen years ago, Estonia got a silver medal in cross-country skiing. Kristina Smigun0 Vahl placed second in the women’s 10 kilometre classical freestyle skiing event.

Estonia is one of six nations to earn one medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. They are joined by Brazil, Kazakhstan, Georgia, the Individual Neutral Athletes, and Belgium.

This was the second time in MacKay’s freestyle skiing career he won a halfpipe skiing medal at a major international competition. At the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, MacKay won the gold medal.

Team Canada has now won four gold medals, five silver medals and eight bronze medals. They are in 10th place in the overall medal standings.
