Tristan Jarry records 24th NHL shutout

Tristan Jarry of Surrey, British Columbia recorded his 23rd National Hockey League shutout on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a dominant 6-0 Edmonton Oilers victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. This was Jarry’s first shutout with the Oilers as the other 22 have come with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jarry made 35 saves for the shutout. He had nine saves in the first period, 17 saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Linus Karlsson led the Canucks in shots on goal with five.

In the Oilers win over the Canucks on Saturday, one Canadian scored for the Oilers. That was Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, who scored his 17th of the season at 6:49 of the second period on the power-play. All six Oilers goals came in the second period.

One Canadian recorded a multi-point game for the Oilers. That was Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia who had two assists. Nugent-Hopkins was playing in his 999th NHL game on Saturday. He will be playing in his 1000th NHL game on Sunday when the Oilers host the St. Louis Blues.

Jarry now has a record of 13 wins, three regulation losses and two losses in extra time this season while sharing his time with the Oilers and Penguins. He has two shutouts, a goals against average of 2.64 and a save percentage of .909. Jarry’s other shutout this season came on October 18 in a 3-0 Penguins win over the San Jose Sharks.

The Oilers are currently in second place in the Pacific Division. They have a record of 24 wins, 17 regulation losses and eight losses in extra time for 56 points. Edmonton is four points back of the Vegas Golden Knights.
