Chicago Blackhawks left winger Tyler Bertuzzi of Sudbury, Ontario recorded his fifth career National Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-2 Blackhawks overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Bertuzzi scored all three of the Blackhawks goals in the win. He is the second player this season to register a hat trick and score all of his team’s goals in his team’s victory. The other was Macklin Celebrini of North Vancouver, British Columbia, who scored thrice in a 3-2 San Jose Sharks win over the Utah Mammoth on November 18.

On Sunday, Bertuzzi tied the game at one at 12:38 of the first period. Defenseman Alex Vlasic and Andre Burakovsky had the assists. Bertuzzi then tied the game at two from Ryan Greene of Paradise, Newfoundland and Andre Burakovsky at 11:36 of the third period. Bertuzzi then scored the game-winner at 1:18 of the extra period from Ilya Mikheyev and defenseman Artyom Levshunov.

Of Bertuzzi’s five career hat tricks, two have come with the Detroit Red Wings, one have come with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and two with the Blackhawks. This is Bertuzzi’s second hat trick this season, as the other came in a 5-2 Blackhawks win over the Vancouver Canucks on November 5.

In 39 games, Bertuzzi leads the NHL with a 25.6% shooting percentage. He has 22 goals on 86 shots. Bertuzzi also has 12 assists, 34 points, is a -9 with 22 penalty minutes, 15 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 36 faceoff wins, 13 blocked shots, 32 hits, nine takeaways, and 35 giveaways. Bertuzzi’s other game-winning goal opened the scoring on November 7 in a 4-0 Blackhawks win over the Calgary Flames. Bertuzzi scored from Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia and Artyom Levshunov at 12:32 of the first period.

With the win, the Blackhawks improve to 17-18-7. They are two points back of the Los Angeles Kings for a playoff spot.
