Canada reaches semis of World Junior Hockey Championship

Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Men’s Hockey Championships. On Friday night in the quarterfinals, Canada clobbered Slovakia 7-1 at the 3M Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Six Canadians registered a multi-point game. Four Canadians had one goal and one assist for two points. They were San Jose Sharks centre Michael Misa of Oakville, Ontario, Michigan State Spartans right winger and captain Porter Martone of Peterborough, Ontario (product of the Philadelphia Flyers), London Knights centre Sam O’Reilly of Toronto, Ontario (product of the Tampa Bay Lightning), and Barrie Colts centre Cole Beaudoin of Ottawa, Ontario (product of the Utah Mammoth). Two Canadians had two assists. They were Calgary Flames defenseman Zayne Parekh of Markham, Ontario and University of North Dakota defenseman Keaton Verhoeff of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Three more Canadians scored a goal. They were Kelowna Rockets centre Tij Iginla of Kelowna, British Columbia (product of the Mammoth), University of North Dakota centre Cole Reschny of Macklin, Saskatchewan (product of the Calgary Flames), and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds centre Brady Martin of Kitchener, Ontario (product of the Nashville Predators).

Canada will next face Czechia in the semifinals on Sunday. The other semifinal will have Sweden versus Finland.
