Josh Naylor wins 2025 Tip O’Neill Award

Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ontario has won the 2025 Tip O’Neill Award according to Rogers Sportsnet. The award is presented to the top Canadian baseball player on an annual basis.

This is the second time Naylor has won the award. He was previously honoured while with the Cleveland Guardians in 2023. This past season, Naylor shared his time with the Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. He is the first player ever to win the Tip O’Neill Award by playing for two different teams during the season he won the award.

In 2025, Naylor batted .295 with 20 home runs and 92 runs batted in. During 147 games, 543 at bats and 604 plate appearances, he scored 81 runs and 160 hits, 29 doubles, one triple, 30 stolen bases, 48 walks, 251 total bases, five sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .353, and a slugging percentage of .462.

Naylor was also smoking hot during the 2025 Major League Baseball postseason. The Mariners reached the seventh game of the 2025 American League Championship Series before losing to the Toronto Blue Jays. Naylor batted .340 with three home runs and five runs batted in. During 12 games, 47 at bats and 51 plate appearances, he scored seven runs and had 16 hits, two doubles, two stolen bases, four walks, 27 total bases, an on base percentage of .392, and a slugging percentage of .574.

The two postseason stolen bases came in Mariners wins. The first came in game five of the American League Divisional Series, a 3-2 Mariners win over the Detroit Tigers on October 10. The second came in game two of the American League Championship Series, a 10-3 Mariners win over the Blue Jays on October 13.
