San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini of Vancouver, British Columbia recorded his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-2 Sharks overtime win over the Utah Mammoth at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
This is the first time that a NHL player this season has scored all three of his team’s goals in a single game and guided his team to victory. Nashville Predators left winger Matthew Wood of Lethbridge, Alberta scored all three of his team’s goals on November 10 in a 6-3 Nashville loss to the New York Rangers.
Celebrini opened the scoring at 1:47 of the first period from Will Smith and Philipp Kurashev. He then put the Sharks up 2-0 from Collin Graf at 5:58 of the first period. Celebrini then scored the game-winning goal from William Eklund and Smith at 2:52 of overtime on the power-play.
Celebrini’s first NHL hat trick came in an 8-7 Sharks loss to the Minnesota Wild on April 9, 2025. Celebrini then scored thrice in a 6-5 Sharks win over the New York Rangers on October 23.
In 2025-26, Celebrini has 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 20 games. He is a +4 with 12 penalty minutes, 10 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 57 shots on goal, 163 faceoff wins, 14 blocked shots, 13 hits, eight takeaways, and 29 giveaways. Celebrini’s other game-winning goal this season also came in overtime. It was unassisted in a 6-5 Sharks win over the Minnesota Wild on October 26.
With the win, the Sharks improved to a record of nine wins, eight regulation losses and three losses in extra time for 21 points. They are two points back of the Seattle Kraken for a playoff spot.
