Darcy Kuemper records 37th career NHL shutout

Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan recorded his 37th National Hockey League career shootout on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Los Angeles Kings win over the Winnipeg Jets.

Kuemper made 23 saves for the shutout. He made five saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario led the Jets with four shots in goal.

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Drew Doughty of London, Ontario scored for the Kings. He completed the scoring into an empty net with 54 seconds left in the third period. Doughty won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

This was Kuemper’s ninth shutout with the Kings. Of Kuemper’s 37 NHL shutouts, 10 have come with the Arizona Coyotes, seven have been with the Minnesota Wild, six have come with the Washington Capitals, and five have come with the Colorado Avalanche.

This season, Kuemper has a record of four wins, three regulation losses and three losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 2.57 and a save percentage of .900. The Kings moved into a third place tie with the Seattle Kraken and Edmonton Oilers in the Pacific Division.
