New York Islanders centre Bo Horvat of London, Ontario recorded his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-2 New York Islanders win over the Edmonton Oilers at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. This was the Islanders first win of the 2025-26 NHL regular season.

Horvat scored the last three goals of the hockey game. He first tied the game at two with two minutes and four seconds left in the second period. The goal was shorthanded, on the breakaway, and an all-Canadian goal. Jean-Gabriel Pageau of Ottawa, Ontario and defenseman Ryan Pulock of Dauphin, Manitoba had the assists.

Horvat’s second goal was the game-winning goal with four minutes and 46 seconds left on the power-play to break a 2-2 deadlock. This was also an all-Canadian goal as Mathew Barzal of Coquitlam, British Columbia and defenseman Matthew Schaefer of Hamilton, Ontario (the NHL’s first overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft) had the assists to put the Islanders up 3-2. This was Barzal’s second point as he opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with three minutes and 37 seconds left in the first period.

The hat trick for Horvat came with nine seconds left in the game into an empty net. Jonathan Drouin of Ste-Agathe, Quebec and Emil Heineman had the assists.

Horvat’s first NHL hat trick came in a 5-2 Vancouver Canucks’s win over the Detroit Red Wings on October 22, 2019. On the season, Horvat has three goals and two assists for five points in four games. He was a +3 with two penalty minutes, three power-play points, one shorthanded point, one game-winning goal, 23 shots on goal, 49 faceoff wins, two blocked shots, three hits, and four giveaways.
