The Toronto Blue Jays are in control of the 2025 American League Divisional Series. But what we have seen over the last 48 hours is gobsmacking. No one on the planet expected them to score 23 runs, but that is what they have been able to accomplish in their best of five series to take a two games to none series lead.

On Sunday, the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 13-7. From an offensive perspective, we saw early greatness from Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero of Montreal, Quebec, who hit a fourth inning grand slam. The Blue Jays also had two home runs from Daulton Varsho, and one home run each from Ernie Clement and George Springer. The five home runs are a Blue Jays postseason record and it was the first grand slam in Blue Jays playoff history.

It was just not the hitting that deserve high praise. Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage threw 5 1/3 innings and set a Blue Jays franchise record for most strikeouts in a playoff game with 11. Yesavage was so spectacular on the mound, he did not give up a hit.

The Blue Jays now leave for Yankee Stadium with a game three matchup against the Yankees on Tuesday. One area of concern for the Blue Jays is the bullpen as they gave up seven runs as a unit in 3 2/3 innings on Sunday.
