New Brunswick wins two gold medals at Canada Games

Team New Brunswick won two gold medals on Friday at the 2025 Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Both gold medals came in athletics.

Dante Cormier of Riverview, New Brunswick won the gold medal in men’s 100m wheelchair racing. Gavin Baggs of Paradise, Newfoundland won the silver medal, and Matthew Dykstra of Edmonton, Alberta won the bronze medal.

Shelby MacIsaac of Riverview won gold in the women’s 800 metre hurdles. MacIsaac posted a time of 1:00.01. Sydney Freeman of Bracebridge, Ontario won the silver medal with a time of 1:01.13. Happy Oluwasikun of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan won the bronze medal with a time of 1:01.81.

Quebec continues to lead the Canada Games with 51 gold medals. On Friday, Quebec won seven gold medals. The gold medals came in athletics, mountain biking, diving and golf. The gold medals in athletics came in the men’s 400 metres (Mickael Allaire of Laval), in the men’s 1500 metres (Robin Lefevre of Montreal), and in the men’s 100 metres in the Special Olympics Division (Denzel Kamdem of Montreal). Quebec also won gold in the men’s and women’s relay in the mountain biking relay. In diving, Mathilde Laberge of Mont-Royal won gold in the women’s platform. In women’s golf, Leonie Tavares of Quebec City placed first.
