The Toronto Blue Jays were buyers at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline rather than sellers. That is what happens when you are in first place in the American League East.
Here are the new Blue Jays the franchise has acquired in the last 24 hours.
Shane Bieber
The native of Orange, California spent seven seasons with Cleveland from 2018 to 2024. He was an All-Star in 2019 and 2021, and won the American League Cy Young Award in 2020. In 2019, Bieber led the Majors in complete games (three) and shutouts (two). In 2020, he led the Majors in wins (eight), earned run average (1.63), and strikeouts (122). Bieber has not pitched so far this season as he is rehabilitating from Tommy John Surgery. In return, the Blue Jays traded prospect Khal Stephen to Cleveland.
Ty France
The All-star first baseman is joining his fifth Major League Baseball team. He was previously with San Diego, Seattle, Cincinnati and Minnesota. This season for the Twins, France batted .251 with six home runs and 44 runs batted in. He scored 41 runs and had 88 hits, 19 doubles, one stolen base, 19 walks, 125 total bases, one sacrifice fly, an on base percentage of .320 and a slugging percentage of .357. The sacrifice fly came on April 27 in a 5-0 Twins win over the Los Angeles Angels. The stolen base came on May 9 in a 3-1 Twins win over the San Francisco Giants.
Louis Varland
The relief pitcher from St. Paul, Minnesota played the last four seasons with the Twins. In 2025, he had a record of three wins and three losses with an earned run average of 2.02 in 51 games. During 49 innings pitched, Varland gave up 41 hits, 11 earned runs, three home runs and 13 walks, to go along with 47 strikeouts, 17 holds, and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.10. Varland and France were traded from Minnesota to Toronto for outfielder Alan Roden and Cuban starting pitching prospect Kendry Rojas.
