Nick Pivetta records 62nd MLB career quality start

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia recorded his 62nd Major League Baseball quality start on Friday at San Diego’s Petco Park in southern California. He accomplished the feat in a tight 3-2 Padres win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pivetta pitched six innings, and gave up six hits, and two earned runs. He also had exceptional control with eight strikeouts and zero walks. Pivetta threw 81 pitches of which 56 were strikes.

In 11 games this season, Pivetta has simply been sensational. He has a record of six wins and two losses with an earned run average of 2.74. In 62 1/3 innings pitched, Pivetta gave up 45 hits, 19 earned runs, six home runs, and 18 walks, to go along with 71 strikeouts, seven quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.01. Of Pivetta’s 62 quality starts in his Major League Baseball career, 19 came with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2017 to 2019, 36 came with the Boston Red Sox from 2021 to 2024, and seven came with the Padres.

San Diego is currently in second place in the National League West. They have a record of 32 wins and 24 losses for a winning percentage of .571. The Padres are only three games back of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
